Is Acupuncture painful?
Most patients feel a slight prick or pinch as the acupuncture needle is inserted into the skin, but this should not be sharp or painful. Many patients feel a numbing, warm, dull or tingling sensation when all the needles are in the body but no sharp, uncomfortable pains. In saying this, some patients are more sensitive to the acupuncture needles than others. Are there any side effects to any of the Chinese Medicine techniques (acupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping)?
There are minimal to no side effects with any of the Chinese Medicine techniques. After an acupuncture treatments you may feel a little tired and drowsy, so it is suggested not to do any strenuous activity after the treatment. With cupping, bruising is evident from the suction of the cups, these red circular bruises can last up to 7 days, however do not cause any soreness or pain. Who can be treated?
Chinese Medicine (Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine) is safe and effective for all age groups from babies, to teenagers to adults to the elderly. Each treatment is specialised for the patient and all medications and medical history will be considered to ensure the ideal treatment.

Is Chinese Medicine safe?
Chinese Medicine is very safe when practiced by a qualified Chinese Medicine practitioner. Only fine, sterile, disposable acupuncture needles are used for each treatment. AcuHealth Therapies only uses the best quality equipment and herbal products. No endangered species are used. 

Is Chinese Medicine covered by Private Health Insurance?
Yes, majority of the major private health insurance companies provide a rebate for both acupuncture and Chinese Herbal medicine. However, it does depend on the type of cover you have. It is important to check with you private health insurance company to check whether you are eligible for a rebate. Please enquire within the clinic for more information.

How long does a treatment take?
First consultation usually takes just over an hour as the practitioner needs to do a full comprehensive medical history before treatment. Subsequent consultations take about 45-50 minutes.

Is there any problems with combining Chinese Herbal Medicine and Western medicine?
There should be no problems interacting Chinese herbal medicine with western pharmaceutical medication. However, it is important to discuss further with the Chinese medicine practitioner.
