Acupuncture is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine that has been practiced for thousands of years. It involves the careful insertion of sterile needles into specific acupuncture points to maximise the flow of Qi (energy) and blood throughout the body.

Acupuncture is a natural and holistic therapy that can complement western medicine treatments and form part of an overall health plan.  Acupuncture has a low risk of side effects and can be a relaxing experience that may have a positive impact on overall well-being.

Our approach to patient care is that we view each patient as a unique individual and take the time to get to know our patients and their health background..

With over 15 years experience as a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner, Dr Sharlane Aldover will tailor an acupuncture therapy plan to suit your individual circumstances.

AcuHealth Therapies offers high quality Chinese Herbal Medicine to the community of Doncaster. When discussing a treatment plan with patients we follow the same approach that we do with an acupuncture consultation and make sure we have a detailed understanding of your health history and background,

We stock Chinese herbal medicine in a variety of forms including patented pills, concentrated capsules, herbal pads and ointments.

Our clinic provides Cupping Therapy to residents in Doncaster, which can complement and support acupuncture therapy. Cupping therapy involves applying gentle suction to the skin and muscles by placing cups onto appropriate areas of the body.

Dr Sharlane often utilises cupping therapy to treat patients who are experiencing back, shoulder or neck pain. This can lead to positive outcomes for patients.

Cupping therapy is popular with local sportspeople and the wider community in general and Dr Sharlane can discuss with you whether cupping is a therapy that can be beneficial as part of your acupuncture treatment plan.

Is acupuncture therapy safe?

Yes, acupuncture is considered to be safe when the therapy is performed by a licensed and experienced acupuncture practitioner. In Australia, Acupuncture practitioners are regulated by AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency).

This depends on your specific condition and health background. Some patients may only require a few sessions while others with a chronic condition may benefit from an ongoing therapy plan.

Comfortable and loose-fitting clothing is recommended to enable your practitioner to easily access acupuncture points on your arms, legs and torso.  Your practitioner will ensure that you are appropriately covered and will consult with you before accessing any specific areas of your body.

Most patients experience little to no side effects. Some patients may experience mild side effects including slight bruising, mild soreness or fatigue.

At your first acupuncture appointment your practitioner will discuss your medical history, identify any current symptoms and tailor an acupuncture plan suited to your individual needs.
